The mission of the Social Integration and Community Development Association (SICDA) is to promote social integration and community development, in order to improve the quality of life of people belonging to local communities and in particular to immigrant communities and to promote sustainable human development especially in the areas of health, education, social integration, environment and social culture and social competence.

SICDA is IRS-recognized public charity under the Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(3) (public charity status: 170(b)(1)(A)(vi)). Contributions to SICDA are deductible under section 170 of the Internal Revenue Code.

European Cultural Evening coming up on October 23rd, 2011! Quarterly cultural evenings and thematic clubs constitute Friends and Stories Project that has as its primary objective to unite (befriend) people through and around meaningful ideas presented in stories told by art, literature, whole culture of a community. It promotes intercultural understanding and mutual enrichment of cultures that meet each other on the ground of genuine friendship and other truly universal human needs and values. SICDA has partnered with Business and Society Center for the educational project with the objective of equipping small and medium size businesses in the U.S. with cutting edge, strategic knowledge on necessary business culture adjustments to meet the challenges of the today. A specific target group where the Association plays its part in the project are the minority business enterprises (MBEs). To learn more, please visit the Business and Society web pages here.

CURRENT PROJECTS

EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT - AFRICA

With target on Ondo State, Nigeria the project intends to initiate collaboration, faculty/student exchange, joint research programs between the Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko, Nigeria and its U.S. counterparts; as well as to assess and assist to the needs of the AAUA. Project beneficiaries are municipal and state administration, local businesses, students and faculty members of the local university. The intended result will be creation and transfer of knowledge, through specialized education for sustainable development, social transformation and good governance in Nigeria, and Ondo State in particular. New SICDA’s projects in the field of promoting higher education for sustainable development are in the stage of preparations and will benefit such African countries like Kenya, Sierra Leone, Morocco, Liberia and other.

CONFERENCE SERIES ON MIGRATOIN AND DEVELOPMENT

The last conference in this series has been held on September 22nd, 2009 (Tuesday) in the Governor Calvert House. Title of the conference was THE SOCIAL INTEGRATION OF IMMIGRANTS IN MARYLAND: A NEW COMPREHENSIVE APPROACH and it was a joint effort of the following organizations: Social Integration and Community Development Association (SICDA), Maryland Office for Refugees and Asylees of the Government of Maryland, Asian American Studies Program of the University of Maryland and the GRL (Global, Regional, Local) Development LLC. The Conference was second in the series of conferences devoted to the issues of immigration to the United States. First conference was held in Washington. D.C. (Phillips Collection) on October 10th, 2008 with more than 200 participants and 18 speakers exploring the influence of the immigration policies of the United States on the country’s social and economic development.

FUTURE PROJECTS

WORLD EDUCATION FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

This future project will initiate and support higher and professional education initiatives focused on areas necessary to further sustainable development, social and cultural transformation and good governance. Project is based on the U.S. unique academia, professional, training and research cadre as well as educational and developmental concepts, which potential is still not fully discovered and exercised. Project is designed to serve educational needs of American and foreign students, scientists and professionals and will offer specialized trainings in collaboration with mainly U.S. universities, colleges and other educational and research centers.
